Team Principal Jordon Musser Earns Victory in Pirelli World Challenge Debut
After a Friday snowstorm, the weather cleared enough last Saturday to allow a successful Round Four of the 2011 Pirelli World Challenge Championship at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Jordon Musser bounced back from a cancelled qualifying session on Friday to claim GTS class victory with the #05 Momentum / Race Fuel Energy Drink / Amsource Capital Chevrolet Camaro.
Regular Team drivers Ardee Toppe and Alec Udell couldn’t attend the Utah round of the World Challenge, so Musser seized the opportunity to keep his driving skills sharp. Starting the race further back than he would have liked, he survived early lap chaos to pick off several cars per lap. From a 13th place starting position, Musser grabbed the GTS win, the Invisible Glass Pass of the Race Award, and the race’s Sunoco Hard Charger award for improving the most positions from his starting spot.
“I am an engineer by trade, and I co-own the business and manage our shop. When our hard working regular drivers Alec Udell and Ardee Toppe couldn’t race here, I just knew I had to take this opportunity to race. It might be my only chance this year, so I knew I had to make it count!”, said Musser.
“As far as the race goes, I was a little nervous. We started 31st. That’s 13th in GTS. But, it doesn’t matter if you are first in GTS because you still have a bunch of cars in front of you. Sure enough Randy [Pobst] stalled and we almost got collected in that mess. I literally stood on the brakes, veered left and almost had to stop in the middle of the track to get around him. After that near-miss, I put my head down and drove that thing so hard; using dirt, curbs, and everything I could to move to the front. In the end, it all worked out and I was able to hold-off Eric Foss’s Mustang. I could not be happier for my Camaro team!”, he added with a sly grin.
“We’re really looking forward to taking the lessons learned here and applying them to the next round at Mosport.”, said Momentum team principal Ray Butler. “Ardee and Alec will be driving an even better car there. It’s what we do, never stop learning and improving. This carries over to our business where we build and prep race and high performance street cars for our customers”, he added.
